Bradley Beal wrapped a whirlwind summer and began the next chapter of his career this week, as the Clippers kicked off training camp with their annual media day, which included Brad’s first look in a Clippers uniform.

During the festivities, Brad sat down for a one-on-one chat with former Clipper Lou Williams to discuss everything and professed his anticipation of his fresh start in Los Angeles.

“I’m super excited to be where I’m at,” Brad said. “The fire. The competitor in me, we hear the noise. I don’t pay attention to it, but I hear it. So I still have a little chip on my shoulder. I think that helps. But I’m still true to me. I’m excited to be able to play this game and contribute in a multitude of ways outside of just scoring. Our team is thick, top down, we have a lot of depth on this team. So I’m just excited for what I’m able to contribute in whatever fashion that may be in.”

After 11 seasons in Washington, Brad was traded to Phoenix two years ago and he admits it just didn’t work out there. Still he averaged 17.6 points per game while shooting better than 50 percent from the field in 106 games with the Suns. And at just 32 years old, he feels he still has a ton left in the tank.

Brad told Williams that when he and the Suns reached an agreement on a buyout, suitors for his services were plentiful, but ultimately a familial connection with Clippers coach Ty Lue, the enthusiasm of Clippers principal owner and team governor Steve Ballmer, and a conversation with James Harden convinced Brad to head to Los Angeles.

“Everybody and their mom was shooting, once the buyout happened,” he said. “It was like a pick of the litter. So it wasn’t an easy decision to come down to. But in the end, it kind of became easier. I had a previous relationship with T. Lue. We’re both from Missouri….Ballmer, [his] energy is unmatched versus any other governor in the league. And then talking to JH, and his journey to how he got here, I was like ‘ok, yeah.”

The Clippers begin their season on October 22nd against the Utah Jazz.

“We’re going to see and I’m super excited for what we’ve got. We’ve got to hit the ground running.”
